News | The Mayor of Alassio, Marco Melgrati, met this morning at the town hall with Giacomo Aicardi, who has returned to Italy after being involved in the delicate evacuation of Italian students and citizens in Dubai. Aicardi returned to our country on a state flight that landed yesterday at Milan Malpensa, organised by the Italian Government to bring home over 200 students participating in an international diplomatic simulation project promoted by WSC Italia Global Leaders.
During the meeting, Aicardi described the tense hours experienced during the explosions near the hotels where he was staying, the alerts received on mobile phones, and the evacuation procedures that led him and the group to take refuge in bunkers. The departure from Dubai took place yesterday, with the transfer escorted by the Italian consul and security vehicles to Abu Dhabi airport.
Aicardi, one of the ten tutors involved in the project, played a key role in maintaining contact with the students’ families during the emergency, providing constant updates and seeking to reassure parents during the most critical moments.
Mayor Melgrati expressed relief at the return of Aicardi and the other Italian students: “We are deeply relieved by the return of Giacomo and the Italian students – emphasises Mayor Marco Melgrati – During the difficult days spent in Dubai, he once again demonstrated that great sense of responsibility and community spirit that are his hallmarks and which we all appreciate. We are also very happy for the return, which took place today at Bergamo airport, of another of our fellow citizens, Daniele Siviero, together with his family, who were also stranded in Dubai and forced to endure hours of uncertainty and worry. To all of them goes the sincere embrace of our community,” said Melgrati.
