Grand Ferragosto in Savona: lights, music and tradition on the beach

Savona’s Ferragosto week features lantern lighting at sea, concerts, beach parties, and eco-friendly events from 12-14 August.

In Savona, the week of Ferragosto is approaching with a series of events organised by the Consorzio Obiettivo Spiagge and the Italian Beach Operators’ Union, under the patronage of the Municipality. Among the main events is the traditional lighting of lanterns at sea scheduled for 14 August, a moment warmly embraced by both residents and tourists.

Already on the morning of 12 August at 5:45, a classical concert will take place on the Scaletto senza Scalini beach, in the Fornaci district. The event, now in its seventh edition, will feature a performance by the Rossini Ensemble with pieces by Antonio Vivaldi and is organised by the Judax Agorà Association in collaboration with the Burgu de Furnaxi Sea Festival Committee and the Municipality of Savona.

Throughout the entire month of August, the town’s seaside bathing establishments will host a series of parties, themed evenings, dinners, and musical entertainment events as part of the initiative called “A Wave of Celebration,” involving several beach resorts, including Bali Beach, Corsaro, Marinella, and Savona.

On 14 August, starting at 10 pm, the placing of candles in the sea will be accompanied by a special focus on the environment: the candles distributed will be made of beeswax and fully biodegradable. The sea swims will also ensure the cleaning of the beach and the sea at the end of the event. Enrico Schiappapietra, president of Confcommercio Savona and deputy national vice-president of the SIB, highlighted how this tradition “brings families together every year and attracts visitors to see the sea illuminated.” Deputy Mayor Elisa Di Padova added that, while July is characterised by events in the city centre, “in August the stages move to our splendid seafront.”

According to tradition, the candle that manages to sail without going out allows the person who placed it to make a wish. The evening of 14th August also includes a DJ set and a beach party with a stage at Scaletto senza Scalini, with many beach resorts taking part.

The major evening event will be hosted by Luca Galtieri, a well-known television correspondent, and will feature musical performances with DJs and singers, including Monia Russo, who has participated three times in the Sanremo Festival. Young local artists such as Andy Life, Marco Caudullo, Marco Elba, Giulia Chiovelli and Arianna Vallarino will also be present, according to Elisa Di Padova, who highlighted the intention to provide space for new talents from the area.

The organisation of the event involves numerous local entities, including technical service companies, social cooperatives and associations, with the collaboration of public and private bodies. Security will be ensured by stewards, law enforcement officers and surveillance personnel both on land and in the water.

The Scaletto delle Fornaci area is easily accessible on foot from the town and the railway station, while those arriving by car can use the car park at the nearby Le Officine shopping centre. The event will continue late into the night with constant checks to ensure the safety of participants and the protection of the beach facilities.
