Alassio is preparing to celebrate Ferragosto with a series of cultural, musical and entertainment events, culminating in the traditional firework display on the Bestoso Pier. The programme offers activities for all ages, with events ranging from live music to literature, as well as activities for children.
On Monday 11 August at 9 pm in Piazza Partigiani, there will be a concert by the “Città di Alassio” Band Ensemble conducted by Maestro Giovanni Puerari, with the participation of soprano Alessandra Di Gangi. The evening will be hosted by Renata Vallò.
The following day, Tuesday 12 August, at 6.15 pm in Piazza della Libertà, a new event in the “Alassio AperiLibro” series, organised by the Vecchia Alassio Association, is scheduled. The guest of the evening will be Roberta Schira, author of “I fiori hanno sempre ragione” and the recent book “Le margherite sanno aspettare”, published by Garzanti in 2025. During the event, Schira will be interviewed by journalist Renata Cantamessa. As is customary in the series, the audience will be offered a product registered in the De.Co. register of the Municipality of Alassio: on this occasion, guests will be able to taste begonia-flavoured ice cream accompanied by drops of Be.Gin, a gin distilled with this particular ingredient.
On Tuesday 12 August, at 9.15 pm, the Campetto di Loreto Alta will host the evening event “…waiting for the Nomadi Trio Rock”. The event will be led by Nando Rizzo and his band, in preparation for the Nomadi concert scheduled for 29 August at the “Enrico Simonetti” auditorium in Parco San Rocco. Rizzo has a special connection with the group, having previously opened their concerts in Andora.
On Thursday 14 August at 5 pm, the “R. Deaglio” Civic Library will offer animated readings for children with the kamishibai “Rainbow Fish Makes Peace” by Marcus Pfister, a traditional Japanese form of visual storytelling. Admission is free, but booking is recommended. The same evening, at 9 pm, a film will be screened in the “Bibliomovie” series at the “Roberto Baldassarre” Auditorium.
The music will continue at 9:30 pm in Piazza Partigiani with “Alassio under the Stars”, an event promoted by the Tourism Department in collaboration with HPI Event. This week will be dedicated to a tribute to Dire Straits with the band “Over Gold”. Once again, the hosting will be entrusted to Renata Cantamessa.
On Friday 15 August at 10:30 pm, the traditional firework show will take place at Molo Bestoso, organised by the Tourism Department. The event is eagerly awaited by both residents and tourists for the light and colour effects accompanied by music, which will enliven the Alassio seafront.
On Saturday 16 August, from 8 am to 8 pm, the Antique Market will take place in Piazza della Libertà. In the evening, at 9 pm in the Collegiate Church of Sant’Ambrogio, Maestro Giorgio Piovano will perform a concert on the Romantic-Orchestral Organ Gandolfo-Zanin. The programme will include Baroque music pieces by French and German composers, Italian compositions from the 19th century, and a tribute to Marco Enrico Bossi on the centenary of his passing.
On Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th August, also in the gardens of Piazza della Libertà, children will be able to enjoy a performance by street performers featuring acrobatics and clowns, with an admission fee.
On Sunday 17 August at 9.30 pm in Piazza Partigiani, the evening season will conclude with the Ligyes Festival, which includes the awarding of the 19th Cultural Information Prize to Aldo Cazzullo. The journalist and writer, author of the 2024 bestseller “The God of Our Fathers: The Great Novel of the Bible,” will have a conversation with Christian Floris.
Until 7 September, the exhibition “The Sirens – The Call of the Sea” by artist Giorgio Tentolini will be open to visitors on the Bestoso Pier. The exhibition is curated by the Ravagnan Art Gallery and is part of the Ligyes – Alassio Genova Culture Fest programme, with the patronage of the Liguria Region.
Alongside the events, Alassio proves to be an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts thanks to a network of approximately 90 kilometres of walking and cycling trails that cross the surrounding hills, offering views of the sea and nature. The project, carried out in collaboration between municipal departments, public companies and expert guides, aims to enhance the area as a place where sport and nature come together for unique experiences. Maps and information are available at hotels, shops and the IAT tourist office.
