A new development is emerging for the future of the Zanelli pool. During the latest executive Cabinet meeting (Giunta), the Municipality of Savona approved the proposal from Rari Nantes Savona to complete the second phase of the facility and upgrade the first phase.
This marks a significant step towards creating one of the most modern and functional facilities in Northern Italy. The work on the second phase is progressing according to schedule and is expected to be completed by next summer.
The project, with a total value of 3.5 million euros, is financed with 2.5 million from the PNRR and an additional one million from municipal co-funding. This investment includes the construction of a 25-meter pool and a 12-meter pool, along with necessary services, although there is no provision for covering the structures.
Rari Nantes, currently managing the facility, has expressed to the Municipality its intention to submit a project for the completion and modernization of the existing structure. Recently, they formalized this proposal, which was accepted by the Municipality, amounting to a total of 1,801,800 euros. Of this amount, 986,000 euros will be allocated to the second phase to construct a movable cover, a thermal plant, and a gym.
For the first phase, works are planned for a total of €815,800, including the renovation of the roof, the installation of solar panels, the alteration of the atrium with new commercial spaces, and the relocation of the bar.
Sports Assessor Francesco Rossello expressed his satisfaction with this progress: “We are very pleased to record another significant step forward in achieving a facility that will be envied by many in Italy.” He emphasized the importance of having a reliable partner like Rari Nantes Savona, prepared to invest with determination.
With the acceptance of the proposal from Rari Nantes, under the recent “sports reform law,” negotiations for the renewal of the concession linked to the implementation of the planned works, with detailed projects and timelines, can begin.
Assessor Rossello concluded by highlighting the importance of energy efficiency and the services offered by the facility, stressing that the goal is to achieve economic balance and significance of the structure. In the coming months, efforts will be made with Rari Nantes to bring this project to fruition, marking the commitment of the parties involved.
