A new “stazione di posta” has been inaugurated in Albenga, designed to accommodate up to eight individuals experiencing severe hardship and homelessness.
The project, funded with 455,000 euros through the PNRR “Shelter /Service Centre” (Mission 5-component 2-Sub-investment 1.3.2), involved demolishing the Captain’s House in the Rapalline area of Campochiesa and constructing a facility with four double rooms, sanitary facilities, a welcoming area, a medical office, and technical rooms.
Assessor for Social Policies Marta Gaia states: “Those who gain access to this facility, where they will stay for a limited period, will receive educational support aimed at fostering economic and social autonomy. A truly integrated multidisciplinary team with specialized figures will serve as the ‘director’ of individual and autonomy pathways, closely connected with the local service network. I extend my gratitude to all the staff in the Albenga area for their efforts in achieving this significant goal.”
Mayor Riccardo Tomatis adds: “I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has worked passionately on this project. Opening the Stazione di Posta before Christmas, we hope, will provide support to those in need of a more humane environment. This facility is available to individuals from across the district, offering access to pathways that we aim to make efficient and effective.”
Beyond offering overnight accommodation, thus providing a place to sleep when needed, the Service Centre aims to streamline access to the entire network of services. It focuses on guiding and assisting individuals while simultaneously providing essential services such as: employment orientation, food distribution, initial health screening and assistance, linguistic and cultural mediation, and administrative and legal advice.
To access the Service Centre and the shelter you must meet the following requirements:
- Hold current or previous residency within the territory of A.T.S. no. 4 Albenganese (including Alassio, Albenga, Andora, Arnasco, Casanova Lerrone, Castelbianco, Castelvecchio di R.B, Ceriale, Cisano sul Neva, Erli, Garlenda, Laigueglia, Nasino, Onzo, Ortovero, Stellanello, Testico, Vendone, Villanova d’Albenga, Zuccarello);
- Have a valid ISEE certification with an amount equal to or less than €6,000.00;
- Fall into one of the ETHOS categories (European Classification on severe housing exclusion and homelessness).
Regarding the reception service at the Stazione di posta, available for a maximum of 8 male individuals, it is essential, in addition to the aforementioned requirements, that there is an assessment and/or involvement of the person by a local Social Service or a specialist ASL Service. The Stazione di posta offers overnight accommodation only for a limited period of two months, which can be extended if there is no waiting list. An individualized support plan is developed by a multidisciplinary team.
The implementation of activities is managed by ATS No. 4 Albenganese in co-design with the Social Cooperative Onlus Jobel and in partnership with the Caritas of the Diocese of Albenga-Imperia.
