Cia Savona at the national assembly: “Internal areas, water system, and wildlife are priorities for our territory”

At a national level, priorities concerning the territories and local realities, such as the province of Savona, are finally gaining attention. In this region, the agricultural sector and its supply chains are facing significant challenges for the future. Sandro Gagliolo, provincial president of Cia Savona, attended the national Assembly of the Italian Farmers Confederation alongside the general director Gianluigi Nario. Gagliolo remarked: “The proposals highlighted on topics such as internal areas, water, and water supply, as well as the emergency of wild boars and wildlife, are directly linked to the needs expressed by our association for the agriculture sector.”

In the document presented by Cia, five actions are proposed to tackle climate change and the consequences of adverse weather. The importance of prioritizing safety measures in areas with high natural risk is emphasized; developing a new plan for the growth of large reservoirs, integrating them with smaller ones; promoting the reuse of wastewater and treated water, encouraging investments and infrastructure for agricultural reuse; approving legislation against the consumption of agricultural land; and incentivizing maintenance functions of the territory by farmers through a defined regulatory framework.

Regarding the internal areas, Cia highlights the urgency of investing in rural zones, requiring a unique strategy. It is essential to strengthen and modernize both the material and immaterial infrastructure systems, along with policies to support livability. Proposed measures include tax relief, the recognition of family farming with specific regulations, improved access to credit to encourage generational turnover, and the promotion of local production in connection with tourism.

For the wild boar and wildlife emergency, it is proposed to create a uniform system for the census of invasive species and develop control plans to reduce animal density where necessary. It is also suggested to transition from compensation to indemnification for agricultural businesses, covering both direct and indirect damages, and to surpass the de minimis regime. Cia also proposes to strengthen farmers’ self-defense and establish a coordination table between the Ministries of Agriculture and the Environment, regional bodies, and trade associations.

Gagliolo emphasized that “the measures requested during the national assembly have a primary impact on the Savona and Ligurian reality and represent intervention platforms that Cia Savona has long advocated.” He concluded by stressing the importance of realizing these goals to safeguard agriculture and its business and production systems.
