Polo Logistica FS and ASP Mar Ligure Occidentale: Memorandum of Understanding for Digital Integration

Porto di Genova

The Logistics Hub of the FS Group and the Western Ligurian Sea Port System Authority have recently signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing digital integration between the AdSP‘s Port Community System and the technological systems of the Hub‘s companies. This agreement, signed by Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics, and Massimo Seno, Extraordinary Commissioner of the Western Ligurian Sea AdSP, seeks to facilitate the exchange of information regarding key processes related to rail transport services in the ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado.

The initiative will enable smoother communication between information systems, improving the planning and management of rail operations, from maneuvers to loading and unloading activities, to commercial practices such as waybills. The aim is to make rail and intermodal transport to and from the ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado more competitive, with Mercitalia Rail already operating daily connections in these areas.

This protocol is part of a broader context in which the Logistics Hub is committed to similar agreements with other port authorities, such as the Eastern Ligurian Sea Port System Authority and the Northern Central Adriatic Sea. The goal is to foster collaboration and connectivity across various transport segments through innovative solutions, striving for greater efficiency in processes and services offered.

Sabrina De Filippis emphasized the role of digitalization in enhancing “efficiency in logistics and intermodality,” highlighting the significance of the third protocol signed with the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority. This initiative is part of a digital transformation of railway services aimed at boosting the modal shift of goods from Italian ports to the national network and European railway corridors.

Massimo Seno further noted that the agreement aims to “present mutual medium to long-term strategies and share future projects and potential areas for collaboration and synergy.” Specifically, the Western Ligurian Sea Port System Authority is focusing on last-mile infrastructure and the railway network, creating favorable conditions for the development of rail and intermodal transportation to and from the ports of Genoa and Savona/Vado.

This agreement is part of initiatives promoted by the Italian government for the creation of the National Logistics Platform (NLP), a project coordinated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport through the company RAM, which seeks to digitalize the entire logistics sector.
