Over eight thousand people participated in the tenth edition of the Genoa Smart Week, an event that energized the city with conferences, presentations, and workshops. The events took place across various locations including Palazzo Tursi, the Talent Garden in the Giardini Baltimora, an expo and electric vehicle test drives in Piazza De Ferrari, and a visit to the newly inaugurated Mobility Lab of Smart Genova at the Porto Antico. The initiative concluded with the second day of the Smart City Experience dedicated to sustainable mobility.
The event featured 150 speakers and 80 partners, showcasing more than fifty projects and collaborations between public entities and businesses. Interest was evident from a press review with over 300 articles both locally and nationally. Users will soon be able to access online recordings of panels and roundtables on the official website.
Barbara Grasso, president of the Genova Smart City association, commented: “We wrap up a week full of conferences, workshops, and events that engaged a wide audience of professionals, businesses, institutions, and citizens alike.” This edition marked “the city’s growth not only in terms of innovation but also in its openness to the world.” Genova has been invited to the “Imagine the Citiverse” event in Tampere in 2025, a significant opportunity for dialogue with other smart cities.
The Deputy Mayor of Genoa, Pietro Piciocchi, expressed that the Genoa Smart Week served as “a showcase for the numerous projects that the Municipality of Genoa, in collaboration with all local stakeholders, is implementing to enhance the quality of life for its residents.” New technologies present “an extraordinary development opportunity” for the city. The goal is to lead Genoa into the future, making it a model in mobility, transportation, and Smart Cities.
Among the highlighted initiatives is the Intelligent Urban Mobility platform for real-time traffic monitoring, developed by the Municipality of Genoa and Movyon-Autostrade per l’Italia. Significant investments are also being made by the Municipality in digitalizing public administration, in partnership with Microsoft.
During Smart Week, Genoa received double recognition from the ICity Rank: being listed among the “full digital cities” and securing first place in the “digital administrations” category. Also of great interest was the inaugural “Talk and Speed Date Event” organized with Talent Garden Genoa, which allowed start-ups and university spin-offs to gain visibility and establish connections with companies and institutions interested in investing in business culture.
