The Genoa Smart Week, marking its tenth edition, is a key event for innovative and digital city development. The Genoa Smart Week is gearing up for its tenth edition, an event of both national and international significance dedicated to the development projects of innovative and digital cities. Sponsored by the Genoa Smart City Association and the Municipality of Genoa, the event is organized by Clickutility Team with the endorsement of Rai Liguria. Key partners include TIM Enterprise, ENI, and Movyon as gold partners.
The opening day, set for Monday, November 25, will take place at the Representation Hall of Palazzo Tursi. The institutional session, titled “Digitalization and Development of Smart Cities,” will welcome the new president of the Liguria Region, Marco Bucci, and the deputy mayor of Genoa, Pietro Piciocchi. During the meeting, projects aimed at reimagining the future of the city in response to demographic and climate challenges will be presented, alongside an exploration of the most promising digital technologies to enhance governance and administration efficiency.
In the afternoon, the event “Smart Cities Assessment” will be held in English with participation from Urban Innovators Global. A future vision of smart cities will be presented, along with the results of the assessment of Genoa as a smart city. This will be followed by a debate featuring various foreign cities recognized for their excellence in this field.
The upcoming panel, “The Impact of Smart Mobility Projects on Sustainability – Intelligent Urban Mobility in Genoa,” will highlight Intelligent Urban Mobility, a project overseen by Movyon, part of the Autostrade per l’Italia Group. This initiative aims to develop a cutting-edge system in collaboration with the local area, using Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence to manage mobility in an integrated manner, reducing pollution and urban congestion.
Genoa Smart Week is set to kick off its edition with a program full of events and prominent speakers. Here’s a glimpse of the day’s details. On Monday, November 25, the Hall of Representation at Palazzo Tursi will host the institutional opening session, focusing on digitalization and the development of smart cities.
The day will begin at 10:30 AM with official greetings, moderated by Andrea Castanini, deputy director of Il Secolo XIX. Among the participants, Pietro Piciocchi, Deputy Mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci, President of the Liguria Region, Barbara Grasso from the Genova Smart City Association, and Claudio Arbarino from the Metropolitan City of Genoa will welcome attendees.
The keynote speech will be delivered by Pietro Piciocchi, who will showcase Genova’s city projects. Following that, Alfredo Viglienzoni will introduce the 2024 edition of the Genova Smart Week.
From 11:15 onward, the focus will shift to topics such as research and knowledge transfer in the smart city domain, featuring contributions from Paola Dameri of the University of Genova and Paolo Zanenga from The Transition Institute. Paola Girdinio of Start 4.0 will address neutrality and transparency in data management, while Ilaria Gavuglio of AMT will discuss innovation in public transportation. Giovanni Battista Raggi and Enrico Sterpi will respectively tackle the use of artificial intelligence in waste management and digital design. Giorgio Genta from ETT will conclude with insights on accessible cities and inclusive solutions.
In the afternoon, starting at 2:30 PM, the English-language panel “Smart Cities Assessment” will be hosted by Urban Innovators Global. Speakers such as Raffaele Gareri and Bas Boorsma will explore digital transformation and innovation for Genova, with contributions from Teppo Rantanen from Tampere and Roland van der Heijden from Rotterdam.
The day will wrap up with a focus on the impact of smart mobility projects on sustainability from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Moderated by Francesco Margiocco, the discussion will include Matteo Campora from the Municipality of Genova, Michela Gallo from the University of Genova, Arcangelo Merella of Smart Genova, and other industry experts.
