Pietra Ligure, Blue Flag and sustainable development

Pietra Ligure

Pietra Ligure | For the seventh year Pietra Ligure has obtained, for its shoreline of the west, the Blue Flag. This is the award given annually by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) to seaside resorts that meet strict criteria in the sustainable management of the territory.

“It is a goal that we are proud of and that testifies to a continuous commitment and on many fronts that lasts all year” commented the Mayor of Pietra Ligure, Luigi De Vincenzi, “an important recognition, all the more so in the moment of extreme difficulty that we are experiencing. It is a symbol of rebirth and hope that brings with it our desire to restart and to strongly revive the tourist economy of our city, encouraging us to put in place all possible energies to be ready to welcome safely and to quickly regain the lost ground in these months of pandemic”.

The award was also a stimulus to renew the city’s environmental policies. “The Blue Flag – says the Mayor – is a continuous challenge for the improvement of all those aspects that constitute the criteria for assessing the environmental quality of our territory and its sustainable development:  improve recycling, green and pedestrian areas as well as bike paths, but also the improvement of the quality of bathing waters and beaches throughout our coast and hotel and tourist facilities and, not least, the strengthening of environmental education in our schools.”
