The Regional Natural Park of the Ligurian Alps has announced plans to improve signage along its network of trails. This initiative is part of a project funded by the P.S.R. programme, titled “Local actions within the cooperation project: AV2020, Enhancement of the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri – From ridge path to network of people.” The aim is to increase accessibility and usability of the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri and its connected routes.
Alessandro Alessandri, president of the Park Authority, emphasised that the organisation continues to focus on promoting and enhancing its hiking network, which he described as the “beating heart of its identity and a key driver for the development of sustainable outdoor tourism.” He also highlighted the crucial support from the Liguria Region and the regional councillor (assessore) responsible for Parks and Biodiversity, Alessandro Piana, which has enabled the planning of “strategic investments for the Park” and progress towards a more comprehensive use of the trails, in cooperation with local municipalities and associations.
The planned works will cover the trail network within the protected area, involving eight municipalities: Cosio d’Arroscia, Mendatica, Montegrosso Pian Latte, and Rezzo in the Arroscia Valley; Molini di Triora and Triora in the Argentina Valley; and Pigna and Rocchetta Nervina in the Nervia Valley. The project received the highest possible score of 100 out of 100 and secured funding of €68,602.74, covering nearly the entire budget.
Two specialised companies have been commissioned to carry out the work, which primarily involves installing new directional signage with clear indications for trail navigation. Additional tasks include updating maps and maintaining existing signage along the sections of the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri within the Park, as well as on connecting routes listed in the Inventory Map of the Ligurian Hiking Network.
At the same time, the Park has applied for another regional funding opportunity aimed at supporting extraordinary maintenance on trails recorded in the Inventory Map of Ligurian hiking paths. This funding is backed by resources dedicated to implementing the National Forestry Strategy.
