The Municipality of Vado Ligure has endorsed an innovative plan for the sustainable management of public greenery, crafted by expert agronomists. The initiative involves the removal of 34 trees for safety reasons and the planting of 44 new specimens. A total of 297 targeted prunings will be conducted, steering clear of topping practices. Funded with €130,000 from the municipal budget and external contributions, the project aims to ensure urban safety and enhance beauty.
The municipal Giunta (executive cabinet) of Vado Ligure has approved an ambitious project for the management of public greenery. A team of expert agronomists, appointed by the administration, conducted an in-depth study of the city’s arboreal assets. In collaboration with municipal technicians, they developed a comprehensive plan for integrated and sustainable management of public greenery. This plan includes targeted interventions on tree plantings, new installations, and general maintenance.
The project involves the removal of 34 trees for safety reasons, with the planting of 44 new trees to compensate for the loss. Among the new species will be magnolias, holm oaks, flowering pears, mulberries, lindens, oleanders, cork oaks, crape myrtles, and other varieties.
The plan also includes three stump grinding operations and 297 prunings, to be carried out with particular care. The prunings will be performed in various methods, such as “training”, “containment”, and “deadwood removal”. The practice of “topping” will be avoided to protect tree health and ensure public safety, as it compromises stability and increases structural risks.
The project will be funded from the municipal budget 2024/2026, thanks to fees from the expansion of the Bossarino landfill and a transfer from the Port Authority. The interventions, covering the entire municipal area, will have a total cost of approximately 130,000 euros. This amount will cover both operational works and technical and safety expenses, ensuring the quality of the interventions.
According to Mayor Fabio Gilardi and assessore Fabio Falco, “this plan represents an important step forward in the management of public greenery, aiming to ensure citizen safety and preserve the beauty of our area with a sustainable and responsible approach”. The implementation of the project will be supervised by the Public Works and Technological Services Department of the municipality, which will handle coordination and adherence to the planned timelines.
