A vibrant participation and enriching content marked the Public Assembly organized by ANCE (National Association of Building Contractors) Savona at the Sala della Sibilla in the Priamar Monumental Complex. The meeting, titled “The Routes of Urban Regeneration: Cities, Territory, Infrastructure, Identity,” gathered institutions, businesses, and academics to discuss urban regeneration, a critical topic for the future of the region.
According to Massimo Baccino, president of ANCE Savona, “urban regeneration is not just an infrastructural necessity, but a path of cultural, economic, and social renewal.” He emphasized the importance of moving beyond the expansionist model of the past and adopting an approach that highlights environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and social inclusion. He added that “construction companies that can adapt and innovate in this direction will be the ones able to win this challenge.” However, he also pointed out the need for a new model of public-private collaboration and an integrated vision that connects material and immaterial infrastructure.
During the event, a roundtable was held where representatives from construction associations and municipal administrations from Liguria, Piedmont, and Lombardy shared experiences in urban regeneration. Elisa Di Padova, Paola Orsini, Tiziano Pavoni, and Emanuele Ferraloro participated in the debate, offering insights into the challenges and opportunities of such projects.
A second roundtable explored the long-term vision and “Routes of Regeneration,” featuring Marco Scajola, Marco Russo, Gianluca Peluffo, Stefano Betti, and Caterina Sambin. The region of Liguria, particularly the province of Savona, was highlighted as an ideal testing ground for urban regeneration due to its unique infrastructural and territorial characteristics.
Cristina Sambin emphasized the challenges facing the province of Savona, such as the shortage of young graduates and limited digitalization. She stated that urban regeneration could provide solutions to these issues: “To overcome these challenges, an integrated approach that combines environmental, social, and economic sustainability is essential.”
The assembly also introduced concrete initiatives, including an ideas competition organized by ANCE Savona in collaboration with the Order of Architects, aimed at engaging university students and young professionals in developing urban regeneration projects. The goal is to compile these projects into a dossier to present to the regional administration.
Massimo Baccino concluded the event by highlighting the importance of collaboration and reaffirming ANCE Savona’s commitment to fostering dialogue between public and private sectors, enhancing the territory, and creating opportunities for businesses and citizens.
