The events on November 16 and 17 marked the 3rd and 4th stages of the 7th edition of the Winter Championship of Marina di Loano, organized by the Circolo Nautico Loano with the support of the main sponsor Marina di Loano and the Yacht Club Marina di Loano.
The event kicked off on Saturday, November 16, with a briefing at the Yacht Club’s main lobby, where participants engaged with the Race Committee. The meeting fostered a collaborative atmosphere to ensure optimal conditions for the competitions.
After unmooring, the boats proceeded to the racing area. While waiting for the wind to reach the required strength for races, the committee president, Fabio Barrasso, conducted a series of practice starts, allowing crews to train effectively. By 1 p.m., the wind stabilized at 5/6 knots from 170°.
The races featured a windward-leeward course for the ORC and Libera with Spi classes, while the Libera White Sails classes tackled a shorter course.
Sunday, November 17, brought almost spring-like weather with high pressure, sunshine, and calm seas. However, the initial wind of 4/5 knots dropped further, leading Race Committee head Stefano Carattino to cancel the race.
Gianluigi Soro, president of Circolo Nautico Loano, expressed satisfaction with the championship’s progress, which will continue on December 7 and 8 before the holiday break. With 43 registered crews, the event remains the most attended Winter Championship in Liguria. Soro thanked Marina di Loano and its CEO, Gianluca Mazza, for their support.
After three races, the standings show Nottedistelle leading the ORC B class, while Corto Maltese tops ORC C. In the Libera SPI 1 class, Kai Zen is ahead, as is Grazia in Libera SPI 2. In White Sails 1, three boats are tied, with Vogliamatta leading by regulation. Finally, Tuara leads the White Sails 2 class.
